My Story...

Although my ‘Awkward Years’ photo was of me in the first grade, my years after then have been far more awkward. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of those times that I’m willing to share. I am currently a sophomore in high school, and throughout the years, people have picked on me for my brains, and my looks.
Zits, Braces, and Glasses, Oh My! My middle school years were the absolute worst. My face was filled with acne, and I had braces for a good 5 years. My glasses only added to the package. I had big, frizzy hair, and I didn’t know how horrible I actually looked. To top it all off, I was a major nerd, and I still am. My twin and I have suffered through name calling, and ostracism. We were the biggest weirdos known around the school. Of course, being socially awkward didn’t help our situation. Although I was given such a hard time, I kept my head up, and brushed off almost everything that came my way.
Towards the end of eighth grade, I got my braces off, my mom bought me contacts, and I learned how to care of my face and hair. Yes, I still get major breakouts, but who doesn’t? What I’ve learned, though, is that it doesn’t matter what other people think of you. The only thing that matters is what you think of yourself, and if you’re confident in your awkward years, you’ll have even more confidence when your awkward years conclude.
